成田仏舎利塔紹介文
南無妙法蓮華経
日本山妙法寺・山主・藤井日達聖人（明治18～昭和60）は、
仏教・お釈迦様の第一の教え「ものの命を奪わない」を現代社会に広めるため
仏舎利塔（お釈迦様の真身舎利・御遺骨を奉安）を全世界に建てる誓願を立て、
宗教・宗派を超えて世界恒久平和と絶対非暴力を祈念すべく、
熊本県花岡山の第1塔（昭和29）を初めとして日本国内及びインド・スリランカ・
ネパール・英国・オーストリア・イタリア・アメリカの諸国に現在75基を建立されました。
成田仏舎利塔は空港がこの地に政府決定された後、空港の平和利用と地域農民への完全補償を
祈念し、日本山妙法寺僧俗と地元住民の奉仕作業により当初は第1滑走路上南端に建立され
（昭和44）三里塚闘争のシンボルとなってきました。
その後、闘争は流血の争いと過激化してしまいました。
日本山妙法寺の僧と地元住民は非暴力運動を続けており、
藤井日達聖人と政府・県・空港公団の話し合いが始まりました。
その結果、空港の軍事利用はしない等の条件をもって、
成田仏舎利塔は遷座（移動）の合意がなされました。
そして現在のこの地に再建工事が開始され（平成4）、
日本山妙法寺僧俗と地元住民の奉仕作業及び空港公団の御協力により
平成13年に完成、盛大な落慶供養法要が挙行されました。
斯くして、成田空港は世界稀に見る「お釈迦様が見守る空港」となりました。
多くの血と汗と涙が染み込み、命までもが失われたここ成田の大地が浄化され、
平和な空港と共に、戦争のない慈悲の世界が実現しますよう、皆様と共にお祈り致します。
非暴力運動により、湧現された成田仏舎利塔は世界平和の柱となりましょう。

The Narita Peace Pagoda
Na-Mu-Myo-Ho-Ren-Ge-Kyo
The Most Venerable Nichidatsu Fujii, the founder of Nipponzan Myohoji, was Born in1885 and passed away in1985. He fervently supported and taught the first teaching of the Lord Buddha, ”Do not kill,” to be promoted in modern societies throughout the world. Fujii Guruji,as he was affectionately called by Mahatma Gandhi, made a vow to build peace pagodas,which enshrine the Lord Buddha’s real relics, throughout the world, as shrines to promote peace.
Praying for eternal world peace and unconditional non-violence, he built the first peace pagoda in Hanaokayama, Kumamoto, Japan, overcoming differences of religion and sects, in 1954, followed since then by the erection of 75 peace pagodas in Japan,India, Sri-Lanka, Nepal, England, Austria, Italy, and the United States.
The Narita Peace Pagoda became a symbol of the “Narita Struggle” when It was first built on the southern tip of the proposed air port No.1 runway In 1969, when the national government decided to build an airport in Narita.
The Peace Pagoda was established to pray for the peaceful use of the airport and for full compensation for the farmers who were to be evicted.
When the Narita Struggle became a violent conflict, Fujii Guruji spoke with the government and the airport agency, who agreed that the Peace Pagoda would be moved from the runway under the condition that the airport should never used for military purposes.
The relocation construction began by Nipponzan Myohoji monks, nuns and followers, and local citizens with airport agency’s cooperation, commenced in 1992. When the reconstruction was completed in 2001, a grand inauguration ceremony was held at this place.
Many tears, much sweat and even the lives of some people went into Mother Earth in Narita. Let us sincerely submit our prayers that this land shall be purified, that this airport be dedicated eternally to service as a peaceful airport, and that a peace throughout our world be established.
